check out your confidence and make a good plan. Especially a contingency plan :D
checkout the dedicated server section, and see how much you know about those stuff.

Urm.... first, what's your area of expertise? Business or technical? Whichever you are you'll need to find someone else good in the other area to support you.

Perhaps you should think of reselling first?
The initial cash outlay is lower, and it would be easier for you to buy a server sometime later when you already have a nice sized customer base.

1. Domain Name ie xxxhost.com
2. Web Site Design
3. Server Hardware
4. Server Software
5. Control Panel ?
6. Security Patches + Upgrades
7. Load Testing
8. Colocation of Server
9. Testing of Data Center Bandwidth
10. Launch ...
This is only a VERY simplistic view....

Tks for the advice given...
As i am using Linux as my server platform... Anyone can advice mi regarding the control panel and security patch and upgrades??
hi there yong1980.
it is not advisible to venture out into your own server if you do not have any experience in the webhosting industry. it would be more wise to start out as a reseller. save the extra/spare dollars you have and use this period of time to gain knowledge about web hosting, server, control panel and etc WHILE you're reselling... get to know all the PROs and CONs. Read more and if you have any doubts, ask around. I'm sure that all the friendly experts here will be glad to answer your qns. i have been reselling for 3 years before I actually settled my thoughts of setting up my own server. right now i'm still deciding what i need. it's always better to spend alittle bit more time to draft out a concise plan rather than sticking your head into something immediately and bang into something later on.
just my 2-cent worth though. (^_^)

i agree with web_rookie. Start off from the basics. When you are confident and experienced, then you take off to a server. This will be beneficial, lest you might end up making losses and winding up your company.
I am not trying to doubt your ability or whatsover, but this is just a piece of advice. However, if you are confident you can make it there and wanna give a shot, then do so. :)

no problem, yong1980! We only provide our views, its still your decision after all.
Yong1980!
Welcome to hosting world..... for your case, even if you have capital to invest in servers, like most of the forum members feedback, for a start, get the experience and kick off with a good reseller provider that does not cause you a forture... you always have to choice to upgrade to get your own servers when you are successful...
good luck to your new initiative and all the best in 2003!
