Everytime I have to present my clients with a portfolio, I sit at the cafe and as I wait, I start wondering if my portfolio is good enough. I recently had a few nasty remarks about my latest portfolio entries, so i was just wondering how you guys get yours done.

Just a few pointers

1) best medium? I have mine in a folder, with pictures of the sites, as well as pictures of images I have created. the pro to this is that i can play around with non-digital stuff in the portfolio. the con is that media rich stuff like flash, don't go in. putting it in a laptop is a good method, but i think that laptops can't give you that wonderful presentation in a normal cafe, especially when a laptop monitor is LCD and only clear in one direction.

2) what goes in?

3) should you include some original designs that clients can just see and pick and get a little saver on using that template set?

4) how to present, where to present. stand up, or sit down? those who are interested in meeting you out-of-office, where is cost saving, what makes the good discussion place? starbucks or restaurant? cost saving matters?

I don't know, I'm pretty upset over my last client who was practically slandering my portfolio. Previous clients were pretty satisfied, so is this just one occurance of different artistic viewpoints or really my fault for failing to make a good presentation?

I don't put everything in, but just select a few key ones. Also, I try to vary them in terms of artistic direction, purpose, colours and projected identity.

And they are all on a laptop. Makes no sense to showcase in other mediums than the one that your service is intended for.

A laptop and some color printed material will be good enough. If you have some "print" work, bring them along too. But personally i still feel that laptop cant really show the colors nicely, so if possible, have your portfolio in your website, so that they can always refer back easily.

well, i'm not a designer, so just some layman advice.

yeah well.. maybe its just a good idea to just some print material. because i don't have a laptop, i have to borrow from my partner... as in.. the guy who helps me out in the designing. so.. a little bit troublesome, cause the lappie is not always available.

haha. well, i think maybe its time to get back to the part on a good portfolio. talk about first impression, I think a gorgeous babe does the trick. Those "lao ti ko" chaps are more likely to accept your deal with a scantily dressed babe than a executive class dressed hunk.. I got one who finished her contract with Citibank as a promoter. Can't believe it, she got such a **Dazzling** price I could easily triple her agreed pay. Now I got some money to be spending downunder!

haha, hopefully. Seriously, I haven't done much web design projects yet. most clients only want print media. Catalogues most of the time. any good reasons why this trend is so apparent in singapore?

fred

catalog and print earns more, coz normally the amount is quite big. Can you share some screen shot of your source file??

sure. i'll take a few for you. maybe you PM me your e-mail address so I can get them over to you.

I can't get the hard portfolio scanned nicely, so in any case, I'll send you the prototypes of my client's website. can be sent directly. This is one of the few web design clients, if you want the print media screenshots, you gotta wait a little bit, because I can only get the soft copy again by Christmas when my print designer comes back from Finland.
