Hi, does anyone have experiences with PerlDesk?

We can't seem to get it to work. We don't want to pay the US$70 "support fee" until we can try it and see if it is what we need. We've written to the author of the script but he has not replied after 2 weeks. :<

If you have any alternatives, pls recommend. Thanks for any advice.

This is our posting in newgroups.

hi all, pls help... Read all posts here and anywhere on the net, but
can't get perldesk to work.

we've checked that all modules and mysql are setup, chmod'd all cgi to 755,
include/tpl to 777.

for
path: /home/xxx/public_html/perldesk/cgi-bin
image: http://xxx.com/perldesk/images
base: http://xxx.com/perldesk/cgi-bin

(xxx is our masked domain name)

After the generation page (all ok) del install.cgi and enter admin.cgi, login with admin and demo and get to this "redirection" page, after that it
sends to

http://xxx.com/perldesk/cgi-bin/admin.cgi?do=main

and IT'S BLANK?!

Hello,

Make sure the perl modules are installed.

If you gave the wrong path to perldesk during the install, it would give you a blank screen when logging into the admin page, and the pdesk.cgi page would have nothing but a header and footer

Rerun install.cgi and make sure the paths (use full path such as "/home/username/public_html/perldesk/cgi-bin") and URLs are
absolutely right.

Move install.cgi to an uppper directory in case you need it again. Then try running admin.cgi again. Put in "admin" for username, and "demo" for password. This should ask you for a login again. Now, enter your administrative username and password.

Let me know how it works out.

sadly, we have done all that. it just will not work.

we've even been advised to move the cgi-bin files into the root perldesk folder.

we've decided not to use it after so many attempts at trying.

looking for another alternative :>

thanks again.

had u tried phpmanager ? They are developing version 2 which promise a more easier to edit templates system.

I am using it now .
