Yearly is the best. You don't need to worry about collecting payment until 1 year later. I even have problems collecting payment for 3 months... They can drag like crazy, and claim their cheques already been sent, etc.
I agreed thats why I am offering free domain names with one of my hosting package being yearly prepaid to attract more ppl to use yearly payment method.
Heng Chai... seen this method being used by a local web host.
Quarterly PRE-payment....
meaning say you sign-up in Jan... you pay up 3 months first ... then you will get billed in Feb for another 3 months ... so you have paid till June ... but in March, they bill you again ... till Sept .. then the system goes on its own... bill in June for Oct, Nov, Dec fess ... then Oct for Jan, Feb Mar fees... etc ..
That way, you are always 3 months ahead ...

.. ..
Too messy IMO. I rather stick to my current month + prepayment. Very easy to manage. I just start mass mailing every 25th of the month.
i also prefer quarterly, but not sure will this become a resistance for those 'careful' customers to sign up

Incase you use Credit Card billing, I would recommend you not to go in for annual payment. Chargebacks can hit you anytime. Plus you can always advertise that you do not want to tie up your customers, therefore you offer monthly billing.
However annual payment is a very juicy thought. Incase someone is willing to pay you yearly, offer them a discount and get paid by cheque or cash. Life is good :)
