Hi,

Not exact technical definitions, but what I would use to describe to less tech-savvy classmates and clients

B2B - your business model is basically provision of services to other businesses. e.g., Selling ice-creams to customers is not, but selling ice-cream making machines to ice-cream stalls is B2B.

ERP - A extensive and large-scale system that manages resources and information flow in an orgranisation. Best left to the HPs and IBMs of this world, although I am damm bent on doing one... haha...

Supply Chain Management - oops, forgot the definition, but you shld be able to get a whole para on it in any accounting textbooks. I am lazy when it comes to studying.... so....

CRM - I prefer to think of it as a methodology to track and manage customers for better services and productivity. It's about understanding customer needs and providing them with anticipatory help or services...

Please correct me if I am dead wrong.... thanks.

Alva's got it mostly there ...

B2B -> Business to Business -> Essentially a transaction between 2 business entities. Does not include the consumer.

ERP -> Enterprise Resource Planning -> Not easy to explain. I have attended modules on this and still a blur... Not neccessary best left to HPs and IBMs... ERP could be small scale. A local SME could use and deploy ERP solutions as well and see alot of benefit from it. It's simply a matter of weighting costs vs benefits. ERP normally takes a complete revamp of most work processes. Something that local SMEs are usually hesistant about.

SCM -> Supply Chain Management -> I've some good links on this if any one is interested.

CRM -> Customer Relationship Management -> Focus is on CUSTOMERS CUSTOMERS CUSTOMERS ... everything about them. Managing, improving their purchasing experience, handling compliants, how to keep customers happy etc ...

PS - Sorry for the lackluster answers.... this head here is spinning away uncontrollably.... .... ....

okie ... a little bored so I will chip in as well ... mine is not textbook definition but more of industrial standard "definition".

B2B ...
popularised in '97, '98 if I remember correctly.
It's not a methodology or anything real but just a way to describe a particular kind of business model. B2B, simply means business selling to business. I'm sure you know that there are also B2C (Business-To-Consumer), C2C (Consumer-To-Consumer), which kinda died before people can actually figure out what's that ... You might ask so what's the real difference btw B2B and B2C since you can also say that if you're a business selling to other businesses, actually the businesses buying from you are consumers as well? The primary difference is in terms of how you classify the entities (how you bull-shit), whether it's a end-user (typically described as consumer) or it's a business (described as business) buying from you.

if you ask me, I say it's all crap. Basically, back in early 97, everyone thinks that e-commerce (selling things on the web) is going to be king ... that's when yahoo and ebay got really big ... then things got bad after everyone realised that it's damn difficult to sell thing online to typical end-users, so companies decided that selling to businesses is much easier. So to differeniate themselves from those cursed online retail mall, they describe themselves to be on a B2B model ... far far away from B2C model ... the rest is history ...

soon after ... some payment gateway providers came up with C2C (I was kinda guilty of this as well), and decided to build gateways which allows typical end-user to pay other end-users ... ie PayPal ...
