View Full Version : E-commerce startup
Hi, I've got a question regarding e-commerce setups.
Suppose I want to set up an online shop from the ground up. What are the tools I'd need, and can anyone give a cost estimate?
Off the top of my head these are what I feel I need. Did I miss anything?
Domain name
Web hosting w/ SQL
Shopping cart script
Payment gateway
Product wholesaler access
I would like to use a local host and gateway since I'll be serving customers in Sg.
Thanks.
1)Domain name
A .com.sg domain would require you to be registered with RCB.
2)Web hosting w/ SQL
I think many local web host offer that.
3)Shopping cart script
This might be the tricky part, many free shopping carts might not fit what you want or they might not be easy to intergrate with your site design... A good free php/mysql shopping cart is "osCommerce" which I am using on my site also.
Other "paid" shopping cart is also available and it would also depends on how much is your budget.
4)Payment gateway
There are also many payment gateway. For a local payment gateway, I am using Wallet21 which enables local customer to log in and pay to your Wallet21 via either Internet Banking, Phone banking..etc
For oversea customer , you had many payment gateways to choose from, each have their own transaction fees and setup fees.
5)Product wholesaler access
That may depend on what kind of products you are going to sell.
So where's your oscommerce shopsite?
I got hold of a variant of this called Echocart.
