Could you please help me? (sorry if this is a bit off topic) I am not
technically minded, but I would like to start an online store. What
should I start with? Are there any pitfalls that I should be aware
of? Thank you

You would have to decide which language are you going to use to script your online store in. You can always start off with an e-commerce script such as osCommerce (http://www.oscommerce.com) which is in PHP or building it from right from scratch with a pre-built commerce starter kit by the ASP.NET team to get you going: http://asp.net/CommerceStarterKit

u need a customized OScommerce script? I can customize it 100% to your choice. Why create a new one?

oscommerce has lots of third party modules and is fully customizable indeed
