Hi all

I am new to ASP.

Currently, i have a task on hand.

Task:
Need to create a online feedback form.
When the user fills this feedback form and CLICK submit button, the information would be sent to the email address: feedback@123.com

In this case, the user have had his domain name & server @ www.123.com

he wants the information to be sent to feedback@123.com

Question:

What does the server needs? As in the requirements?
Eg: Supports ASP.
I read about some articles, stating you need to have CDONTS or ASPmail etc? What are those? What should i look out for?

Btw, i am also looking for web hosting server. Any gd and buget ones?

Thanks.

Are you looking for ways to setup your ASP server or looking for hosting provider? I believe most of the companies will provide CDONTS.

OK..

So what should i look out for when i decide which hosting provider to choose?

When they dun specify CDONTS, means they actually have it. Because when I was searching for hosting providers, most of them didnt specify about CDONTS. It leaves me wondering if they do have this feature.

In fact, i am very new to ASP and i want to master this skill. My first task is to create a feedback form. On the other hand, i also need to subscribe to a hosting provider.

Thanks

Dear james8427,

erm...from what i understand, normally windows 2000 or XP server by default have this CDont's component. So even if they don't specify it, they should have that(of course, it is still your responsibility to confirm that :P )

But for the latest windows 2003 server, it is not so straight forward for them to support CDonts, so normally we would go for ASPEmail instead.

Hope it helps :)

Dear james8427,

ASPEmail is an additional component that you need to install. It don't come with the OS.

I don't think I should make the recommendation as I shouldn't comment on other host that has beneficial conflict with ourselves. But maybe I can let you know a few providers which provide windows hosting that i know of : IWI, SG.GS, Nodens, 8toinfinity

You might want to invite opinions from our other friends here.

All the web host providers should have such function. To use CDONTS, or ASPmail or other component will be up to them. You only need to clearify with them.
