SGNIC is really a small organisation. I do not know why they like to pretend they're big.

Yup... agree on the small part...

Just wondering to myself ... isn't registering a .COM.SG relatively expensive as compared to other country domains ?

Is there any chance that SGNIC might relenquish the monopoly it is holding on to ?

I think the industry wouldn't mind another .COM.SG registrar or would it ?

Think again.....
http://www.sgnic.net/registrar_accreditation.html

They have long announced their intention to decentralise registration. Forget the monopoly, do they really think .sg is such a big thing in the first place that warrants several registrars??? Think realistically, how many .sg domains do you think each accrediated company must register PER MONTH just to break even? Nuts.

Well.. my question was if the industry would mind another .COM.SG registrar ?

Never thought about the breaking even part... coz I don't even know how much it costs ..

And with regards to the nuts part of your post ...
How in the world did you find out my nick from "Monkey World" .. are you part of it too ?

PS... I'm joking okie..

It's not a very bright prospect for registrars. Profitability is uncertain.
What is Monkey world?

No... it was just a joke IceLava...

by any chance would you know the base price for .COM.SG - like a .COM's base price is $6 without any perks etc... just a plain registration.
What about .COM.SG ? Any ideas ?

I can't remember. Ever since we setup Virtual Services dept to providing provisioning services for virtual servers, we technical administrators seldom touched domain registration issues.

Also, I don't believe I should talk about that even if I knew....

roy and icelava,

usa: 290 million people
uk : 60 million
sg : 4 million

Let us face it. Our market is not big enough to have numerous players in any industry.

Rational accepted.

but I just wanted a cheaper solution. S$60 a year is too much to pay. ...

Absolutely true. That's why I question what kinda weed SGNIC management was smoking when they made that decision.
