guys,
if we need to fax to customer or other office, do we need a data line for the fax machine?
or we just buy the fax machine can plug n play already?
alternatively can i use a fax modem to fax?
hope u all can help me in this.
really blur
The most economical way is to use a fax modem, win2k has such service that you fax any text document you want, so is pretty convinient.

meaning no need data line?
You might want to consider buyng WinFax. It's quite easy to use. But you must have a fax modem though. If you have a fax modem, it should come with some software for faxing. Mine did. I think it was called bitware something something...

I think the fax machine itself have a fax modem. All you need to do is to plug in the tel. cable and your power point and you can start using.
Btw. the fax modem for pc and those softwares, is only usable when the files are typed and in ur pc right? So if i have a piece of information, i can't fax am i right?

I think so... but i think you can scan the stuff into your pc and fax it over. I think i did it once when I had to fax singtel a cancellation letter for my pager (very long ago when pager was 'in' )
Yup, if you want to use a fax modem, you can only fax softcopy, so it depend on your need and investment you want to put in. If you want to receive fax as well, may be can consider buying a cheap fax machine.

The best practical way istospend a few dollars to and fro to sim lim square and ask one of the shop dealer. These machines are more located at the ground level. Or if you're lucky enough to have a number.

I think so too. If you want to use fax modem to fax, either type it or scan it.

Actually, using a fax modem is more economical. It seems it is relatively cheaper than normal 56k modem. I saw in a shop a ProLink's 56k is $29 and the ProLink's 56k fax modem is $22.
erm, i bought a 95 SGD D-link voice/fax moden, but it doesn't comes with any software support fax, and i never send a fax yet.
the menu no explaination on that also.
it just no one in this forum can confirm with us a right way to use fax? :P everybody say " i think".
i just found a fax console in my win2k. erm, is it the software that you mentioned?
it did detect my fax moden, erm, later if got chance, i will try it. if i send one page to US, it still considered as international call, right?

Yup!
You have to pay the call charges. Not sure about the Win2k fax thing though... I only use the WinFax :)

Is fax considered an email or a call? Mystery to me yet.
Anyway, are charges for fax machine to call overseas cheaper or no extra charge? Whenever i visit one of my client's office, he is always calling malaysia area using the fax machine. Didn't ask him why though ..
last time i send a one page fax to Hong Kong from our school fax, they charged me 5 SGD, kinda expensive leh.
i think it's considered as overseas calls. should be...i seldom use it anyway.

OK. I have called various companies up and verified my words. When you fax something, you'll be charged that international call as per normal if you fax overseas. It'll be a local call charged if you fax within SG.
The fax machine itself have a fax modem installed internally, you don't have to get a data line. All you need is the normal power point and a normal phone line port.
