Can I just have a show of hand which language does you guys use for development?
I hv just started to use CF and find it very easy and quick to deploy. I do not have any prior programming experience. So I like to find out what does you guys use and are they as easy to learn as CF?

curiouscat,
it depends a lot on what you want to achieve after picking a programming/scripting skill. if you want to use it to spice up your own website and are paying for software tools out of your own pocket, go for PHP.
consider CF if you think you want this learning to be a first step towards a development career in a web based environment. CF is more often used in corporate environment due to its power and flexibility. it is an expensive platform (compared to PHP, everything is expensive) and is not exactly a favourite with individuals and small shops. there is a considerable sized user base in Singapore. you may not always see the .cfm extension at websites because some of them use CF as the backend or within their corporate intranets only.
i am absolutely unqualified to utter a word about ASP. i will ask Bill what it is the next time i see him . . .

PHP is really easy but that's me speaking coming from a programmer's background... still, beginner programmers and even non-programmers are amazed at the simplicity of the language (i know because i see such cases at this other forum... see below) and what you can do with a few lines (of course cannot compare to CFQUERY lah... that's 1 thing i like about CF)... non-programmers more used to HTML always find CF much easier to pick up (bleh that's the idea behind CF after all... spouting nonsense)...
i use PHP a lot and dunno nuts about ASP... PHP is easy to deploy and everything's free! helpful communities too everywhere (try http://sitepointforums.com -> goto the PHP forum :))
it is probably the most popular scripting language now but for commercial value, i'd say JSP, JavaBeans are your best bet.,.. tough to learn though...
I've been bought over by Microsoft. ASP and ASP.NET is what I'm learning. Note that the 2 has significant differences and cannot be considered the same. ASP.NET (as with the entire .NET movement) takes on a new paradigm of web development and server-side processing.

Well as for now PHP seems to be the "in" thing I might say. And if you do have C++ programming background, PHP is absolutely for you.
I remember studying C++ while I was in poly and totally hate it..coz i find no use for it. But the creators of PHP chose to use C++ most common logic and syntax. Yes, I found PHP's syntax quite confusing sometimes. But hey one up for open sourcers. :P

That's where you are wrong. Do you think MS Office, Exchange, SQL Server, and the likes were written with VB? No way, VB is way too fat for such software applications. C/C++ has its place in the software industry.

I agree with icelava, C++ are usually for the software company and trust me, they earn big bucks if you are really good. PHP and ASP are more of commercial programming which they construct dynamic web pages such as web portal or CMS(Content Management System).
