Does Paypal actually accepts debit cards ?

I'm using DBS master debit card, and works fine with PayPal (about 1 year now), and other online payments...

Only thing, I never transferred money from PayPal to my SG bank account. Anybody have experience with it, and how much do they (PayPal, bank...) charge?

I think paypal's withdraw fee is SGD $2.75, but make sure that you setup your bank account properly(in paypal). If the transaction from paypal to your bank is not successfull, they will charge a fee of USD $9 for the reversal fee.

Dear Mr Ong

We refer to your email below.

From our understanding, Paypal transfer funds through one of the local bank using GIRO. However, you might wish to confirm with Paypal before initiating the transfer as there might be charges for unsuccessful transfers. For funds transfer through GIRO to POSB account, the information you can provide is as follows:

Bank Name: The Development Bank of Singapore Ltd
Institution Code: 7171
Branch Code: 081

We hope the above address your concerns and thank you for banking with DBS Bank.
*************************************

Which still leaves me wondering ... Is PayPal really using a local bank to perform a GIRO transaction ?
Anyone can clarify ?

They use something like international GIRO. Code IBG to be exact. It works. :D

Do I need a different branch code if my account is in a different brance or is 81 okay?

royong
22-01-2003, 18:34
I presume 081 is okay ... since in my conversations with DBS -- I did not tell them my branch nor my account number.

fred
22-01-2003, 19:52
if i remember correctly, 81 is the branch in raffles. I told them where my branch is....

Great, this will come in useful maybe sometime later. :D

Now, I stilll have to go through my list of "stuff that can be bought using paypal". See no reason for banks to make money off currency exchange yet. :D

POSB MasterCard Debit, not DBS.

Anyway, 081 is the general branch code for all POSB branches on DBS side (Since we don't enter POSB in the bank name, we re-route to DBS I guess). Our "real" branch code is the first 3 numbers of your account number but for paypal, you need to use 081 and enter the full POSB account number for account number.

wow. I am getting confused. Is it the POSB MasterCard Debit or the DBS one ?

khimhong

i just made a call over to DBS Debit Cards department and fortunately, I called at such early times. Yes, both DBS and POSB are under the MasterCard network, hence, you are able to transact over the Internet - that was the reply given to me.

Heng Chai
23-01-2003, 10:05
Of course you can transact over the Internet. For VISA, their debit card is called Visa Electron and its not widely accepted online. For Mastercard, its just Mastercard regardless of debit or credit, its just how the bank works behind the scenes.

khimhong

So i conclude that mastercard debit can be used anywhere including online usage ?

Heng Chai
24-01-2003, 00:33
Yes. Anywhere that accepts Mastercard.

You might wanna call DBS for help ? Their hotline is 24-hours, that's what i like about cards' helpline. I can call them anytime i wake up (that's around 4-6am) and its as almost as immediate becuase no one would call them at that time. :p anyway, they've confirmed with me that internet transactions is possible if a DBS/POSB Debit MasterCard is used. I will talk to their customer officer very soon. Some time in 30 mins time.

I have yet to have any problems with Paypal. I think whenever you draw the funds out, your money is pretty safe already.
